SRI LANKA AIM TO TAKE SERIES, BANGLADESH HOPE FOR REPEAT

- BY M. SHAMIL AMIT

With the Bangladesh batsmen in the likes of skipper Musfiqur Rahim who had the honour of scoring the first ever double ton for his country from the 76 Test matches played so far and Mohammad Ashraful along with Nasir Hossain in top form they too will be hoping to carry on with this form to this game

The second Test match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh starting at the R. Premadasa Stadium today will be of significance for both the teams as the home team will be coming into the game with due pressure while Bangladesh will be coming with their heads high after their scintillating performance in the drawn first Test match in Galle.

Of course Bangladesh will be more than satisfied with their showing where they went on to post their highest total of 638 runs since they gained Test status 13 years ago.

The first Test at Galle saw eight centuries being scored and it’s left to be seen how the wicket at R. Premadasa Stadium will behave as it’s nearly two years since the last Test match was played in this venue.

Kumar Sangakkara will no doubt be the cynosure of all eyes after his back to back tons at Galle. He is fine fettle and the Lankans will be looking forward for another fine batting display and also T.M. Dilshan, Dinesh Chandimal and Lahiru Thirimanne. With the Bangladesh batsmen in the likes of skipper Musfiqur Rahim who had the honour of scoring the first ever double ton for his country from the 76 Test matches played so far and Mohammad Ashraful along with Nasir Hossain in top form they too will be hoping to carry on with this form to this game.

However even then Bangladesh would be more than satisfied if they could be able to draw this and on the other hand Sri Lanka will be looking to win this game and take the series.

The bowlers of both the sides will have to work harder than what they were at Galle as Ajantha Mendis was no where near his old form and looked to be unstable.

Even the Bangladesh bowlers too were sent on the leather hunt but most probably they would be considering on the batting if their aim is to save the match which no doubt will be a morale booster for a team that was coming in with 12 defeats against Sri Lanka.

Tamim Iqbal who missed the first Test at Galle due to injury would most probably be included along with spinner Abdul Razzak.
