News makers at a Cocktail

-

There was a large gathering of women of style at a dazzling cocktail party at the Oak Room of the Cinnamon Grand Hotel recently. It would have been quite impossible to let these statements of couturier go by without a recording of the same.

In a complete transformation from ten days before, when Natasha Gunasekera made a stylish impact in a traditional look in saree, she made heads turn in admiration in a long sleeved black ensemble. She brought chic sophistication with several strands of pearls which had a large dazzling clasp encrusted with white stones.

A group of sisters who never fail to impress were present and from among them was Sriyani Samarasinghe in a beautiful saree which shaded from a purple to cerise worked in subdued gold for a splendid impact. Saree was the choice of three others from this quintet with Ramani Pelpola in a saree which shaded from deep blue into green to be worked in a scroll design of a border in silver, while the other sister Himali Nanayakara contrasted a golden oriole saree simply bordered in gold with a kum-kum pink cutaway arm holed blouse trimmed at the neckline in the same gold border.

Opting to be different was Predipika Wimalaratne in a flowing blue kameez style with heavy white embroidery at the neckline done in silk thread. Anarkali Akarsha used a black and amber lace top to team with a white skirt or striking contrast. Averil Walsh had her cold shoulder top held up by a broad strap of Swarowski which also trimmed the opposite side for slick sophistication, she wore with dazzling white stoned necklace and earrings. With her was Sir Ian G. Jennings who made a statement of style in a red shirt and multicoloured bow tie, the colours of which echoed in his linen jacket.
