LEADERSHIP TRAINING AIMS TO MILITARISE ENTIRE COUNTRY: CFG

Trainee graduates at Economic Development Ministry to follow suit

- BY LAKNA PARANAMANNA

After conducting leadership training programmes for undergraduates, school students and principals inside military camps, the government is now planning to introduce trainee graduates as well, to this militarybased training, the Center for Graduates (CFG) said.

“Several hundreds of selected trainee graduates recruited to the Economic Development Ministry last year, from the total number of 16,000 graduates, are due to participate in the initial phase of a two–week leadership training programme in a few weeks,

It is now evident that the government’s attempt is to systematically militarize the entire country. Their aim at subjecting the trainee graduates to this military-based training is yet another attempt in that direction

CFG Convener Dhammika Munasinghe said.Mr. Munasinhe also expressed his concern about the programme being extended to the rest of the 51,000 trainee graduates, recruited to the state sector last year on a temporary basis.

“The 51,000 trainee graduates were recruited to the state sector service six months ago and were promised their positions would be made permanent within six months. Although over a year and a month have lapsed since their recruitment, the government has not taken any steps to keep this promise. Instead of mak- ing these graduates permanent employees, what is the point in scheduling a military training for them?” he questioned.

He said the state education authorities had been constantly warned of the adverse repercussions the militarybased leadership training programmes could have on these youths to no avail.

“It is now evident that the government’s attempt is to systematically militarize the entire country. Their aim at subjecting the trainee graduates to this military-based training is yet another attempt in that direction,” he said.
