THE UNFORGETTABLE STORY OF SINHALA POP
Rajiv Sebastian - the deep voice which regenerated the revolution of the 70s, is all out to unfold “The Unforgettable Story of Sinhala Pop” in the form of a spectacular concertMarch 31 at the picturesque Lotus Pond (Nelum Pokuna Performing Arts Theatre).
Billed to perform along with Rajiv are - Prince of Sinhala Pop Annesley Malawana, the nightingale of the 70s Indrani Perera, dynamic Anil Bhareti, the glamorous Shayami Fonseka, one and only “Kandy Lamissi”
Mariazelle Goonetilleke, Tamil Pop Chakarawarthy A. E. Manoharan (exclusively flown from India), teenage heart throb of the 80s Priya Sooriyasena, the back to back Presidential Award winner T.M. Jayaratne, King of Kaffirinya from Moratuwa Nihal Nelson, playback songstress of the silver screen Latha Walpola, the harmonious Neela Wickremasinghe, Presidential Award winner Damayanthi Jayasuriya and the versatile Jackson Anthony, from the silver and mini screen.
The story-board for the evening will unfold the journey of Sinhala Pop by veteran Vijaya Corea with the hidden tales of Moonstones, Golden Chimes and The Super Golden Chimes, beginning from Ruwanpuraya to Kataragama and there onwards the milestones achieved in the film and teledrama industry.
Gayani Karunaratne of Gayani Dance Studio will spice the event with dance choreography going up to the extent of using the traditional “Kohomba Kaley” in creating the atmosphere of Kataragama using the maximum advantage with the collapsible stages at Nelum Pokuna. Rajiv Sebastian who is well known as the only alternative to have done justice to the vibes and creativity of Legendary Clarence Wijewardane since his death, is due to arrange the music for the evening with his band Rajiv and the Clan saving the original flavour of Sinhala pop created during the 70’s.
All in all, it would be a night to remember, with the rare combination of Rajiv, Annesley, Indrani, Anil and Manoharan teaming up after more than a decade.
