The book which analyses the theological aspects of world renowned Oberammergau passion play in Germany where the tradition of passion plays started is a must read for all theatre and drama lovers.
Reputed Fr. Aloysius Pieris SJ writing on the book says that the author’s painstaking analysis of the development of sacred drama both before and after Oberammergau does more than merely tickle one’s curiosity about the historical background of our Passion Play Tradition; rather it invites Catholic artistes and their clerical mentors to make a relentless effort to change the Augustinian (Latin forensic)
paradigm di that h vitiii ates the catechesis imbedded in our traditional Passion Plays and re-write the scripts in such a manner as to instill in our people a theology of redemption that is rooted in the Hebrew and Christian Scriptures in accordance with the general recommendation given in Vatican II, which in its turn has emended and reformulated some of the infelicitous assertions of Trent regarding soteriology.
At the launch, reputed writer and academic Mario Perera is to deliver a talk on the book.
