Premila Perera to bid adieu to KPMG
KPMG’s Member Firm in Sri Lanka announced that Premila Perera, Partner – Head of Tax of the Firm, would bid adieu to KPMG at the end of March 2013 after an illustrious career spanning over 30 years.
Premila Perera, an eminent tax professional, was the first lady partner of KPMG’s practice in Sri Lanka and held numerous positions within the firm’s global structure. She served as the Regional Tax Director of KPMG Asia Pacific based in Singapore in 2000/2001 and was co-opted as a member of the Global Task Force commissioned by the International Board of KPMG in 1998, to advise the board on future direction in determining its long-term strategic plans.
She also served a period of secondment with the US Firm’s National Tax Office in Washington DC and was a participant at the KPMGINSEAD International Banking School programme.
As the Head of Tax for KPMG in Sri Lanka, Premila Perera fostered professionalism in the management of tax, whilst balancing conflicting pressures of stakeholder value and compliance, in the background of increasing governance and regulation. She placed strong emphasis on the resolution of tax complexities in specialist areas such as international tax, financial services, mergers and acquisitions and trade and customs.
She is currently a member of the Main Committee and the Tax Steering Committee of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and the Council of the Employers’ Federation of Ceylon. She has also been a presenter/moderator at various client forums as well as a resource person at forums organised by professional bodies, Chambers of Commerce, USAID and was a Faculty at the KPMG International Tax Business School.
