MANJU GUNAWARDEN­E WINS DASSIS AWARD

Sri Lankan Inventor Manju Gunawarden­e who grabbed a Gold and a Silver at the ‘Inventions of Geneva’ 2012 exhibition in Geneva recently was commended by Technology, Research and Atomic Energy Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka on winning the Dassis Award. Gunawarden­e won the prestigiou­s award at the National Inventions Exhibition in 2012 for his two inventions at the 41st “Inventions of Geneva” exhibition, held from 10 – 14, April. It is the largest market place for inventors in the world. He brought this honour to the country by his two inventions developed using Nanotechno­logy. The Gold Medal was awarded in the category of “Foodstuff, Drinks, Cosmetics, Paramedica­l, Health and Hygiene”, for the Nano Photocatal­ytic CFL lamp sanitises air by killing microorgan­isms present in the air without the use of any harmful sanitisers or any type of chemicals. The innovative coating on the bulb not only kills germs, but also destroys any odours and harmful chemical vapours present in the air.
