Islandwide collection of the forms before the due date will facilitate the preparation of an accurate electoral register in order to secure voters’ ‘Franchise
The annual enumeration of electors for the year 2013 commenced on May 5 and the general public was made aware that the distribution of enumeration forms, the forms issued to the chief occupants to furnish information of the household, was to be carried out up to last Sunday (2), the Elections Commissioner, Mahinda Deshapriya said yesterday.
He said the collection of the forms was scheduled to be done from last Sunday to July 1, although the general public was informed that the enumeration forms in Municipal Councils and Urban Council areas were scheduled to be collected on June 2, 2013.
It was reported that due to the prevailing weather conditions the collection of the forms could not be ended as scheduled. Therefore, it was expected that the collection of the forms in urban areas was to be finalised as early as possible while the collection of information from the chief occupants’ islandwide be ended on July 15.
“Islandwide collection of the forms before the due date will facilitate the preparation of an accurate electoral register in order to secure voters’ ‘Franchise.’ Therefore, every chief occupant was kindly requested to duly fill the enumeration forms and to hand them over to the enumerator who will visit residences in the days ahead,” Mr. Deshapriya stressed.
Meanwhile, PAFFREL Executive Director Rohana Hettiarachchi requested political parties to cooperate with the enumeration and send a party representative at least for each Grama Sevaka division to minimise errors and re-registration by voters.
