Indian opposition party delegation meets Douglas
The Delegation had talks with EPDP leader Minister Douglas Devananda, inspected India assisted development projects in Jaffna
A six-member delegation of the Indian parliament who visited Jaffna on Thursday (6) had discussions with MPs including, Minister of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development, Douglas Devananda, members of the clergy, intellectuals and Trade Union representatives at the Tilko Hotel, Jaffna.
The Indian delegation, led by the deputy leader of Indian opposition Bharatha Janatha Party (BJP) in the Rajya Sabha Ravi Shankar Prasad, arrived in Sri Lanka on Wednesday (5) for a five-day visit.
The Delegation had talks with EPDP leader Minister Douglas Devananda, inspected India assisted development projects in Jaffna and also discussed future development projects in the peninsula. The head of the Indian delegation Ravi Shankar Prasad, who is the Deputy Leader of the Lok Sabha of India, told Minister Devananda that India was a reliable friend of Sri Lanka and they understood the issues and needs of people living in the North. He was presented with a memento by Minister Devananda after the completion of the discussion.
Afterwards, the delegation observed the fishing net manufacturing factory, which belongs to North Sea located at Gurunagar. They checked the operation of four net manufacturing machines granted by the Indian government. This factory was maintained under the Ministry of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development. Minister Devananda thanked the delegation for the support extended by India for success of this venture. (DGI)
