-

Trinity College recorded a crushing 207-run win over Dharmaraja College in their schools under 17 Division one cricket tournament match played at Lake View grounds, Kandy yesterday.

The Trinitians taking first strike did not find any terrors in the Rajans as they amassed 273 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their 50 overs which was over 5 runs per over. Leading the run riot was Nushan Weerasinghe who thumped a brilliant 122 not out with the aid of 13 fours and 1 six facing 153 deliveries. Playing a fine supporting role was all rounder Ravin Sayers who scored 70 with 8 fours and 3 sixes facing 70 deliveries and this pair were associated in a sixth wicket stand 135.

The Rajans chasing a victory target of 274 were nowhere near it as they were reeling at 28 for 9 against destructive bowling of Pramodhaya Abeykoon and me- dium pacer Lahiru Kumara. The left arm medium pacer in his third over performed the rare feat of 4 wickets in 4 balls which included the hat-trick to end up figures of 5 for 22. Lahiru Kumara polished off the late order batting to end up with figures of 4 for 18.

Four of the Rajans scored ducks and it was only a last wicket stand of 38 between Gihan Senaviratne (17 not out) and Ashmitha Rajapakse (20) which helped them to total 66.
