CECB gets new General Manager
Eng. K.L.S. Sahabandu has been recently appointed as the General Manger of the Central Engineering Consultancy Bureau (CECB), which is the premier and the largest multidisciplinary engineering organisation in Sri Lanka.
Eng. Sahabandu, who is an old boy of Mahinda College, Galle, is a graduate of the University of Peradeniya. He joined CECB just after graduation in 1980 and was appointed as a Site Engineer at the Bowathenna hydropower project, which was the first hydropower project fully engineered by local engineers.
In 1987, until he proceeded to the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne in the United Kingdom to pursue a Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering, he held the positions of Design Engineer and Structural Engineer in the Rantembe and Randenigala hydropower projects.
He obtained his Master’s Degree winning the Patric Parson Prize for the best all-round academic performance for the academic year 1987/88 at the University of New Castle Upon Tyne. Upon his return and until his rose up to the position of the General Manger of CECB, he served the bureau in the capacities of Senior Design Engineer, Specialist Engineer (Structural Designs), Project Manager (Designs), Additional General Manager (Designs, Research and Development) and Corporate Additional General Manager (Consultancy) linked with projects of both national importance and those which were and are located overseas.
Eng. Sahabandu is a corporate member of the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL), Institution of Civil Engineers, (London) (I.C.E, London) since 1985. He is also a member of the Society of Structural Engineers, Sri Lanka (SSE, SL), The Association of Consulting Engineers, Sri Lanka (ACE, SL), The International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE), The Sri Lankan Geotechnical Society (SLGS) and the Sri Lanka National Committee on Large Dams (SLNCOLD).
Presently, he is the Vice President of SSE, SL and SLNCOLD and also the Hony Secretary of SLGS. Eng. Sahabandu also discharges his professional service via a number of statutory/regulatory/professional bodies of Sri Lanka. He also has a number of papers and awards for his credit.
