India, SL not mere brothers but twins: Indian Deputy HC
India and Sri Lanka are not only brothers but also twins, said Indian Deputy High Commissioner A.Nadarajh in Kegalle yesterday.
He said this while addressing a function held in Kegalle yesterday at the Sabaragamuwa Chief Minister’s office where sports goods worth Rs. 300,000 were distributed among three Tamil medium schools.
The Indian Deputy High Commissioner who said he would be really happy to make his entire speech in Sinhala, managed to speak a few words in Sinhala to the applause of the participants.
He said this was only a start and more donations would be made by India to promote popular sports and music in these schools.
“These donations are cordial gifts from India. Our relationships in culture, religion, art, music and politics have been in existence for centuries and they will go on. We have no conflicts between us as we maintain our friendship with understanding,” he said.
He also used this opportunity to congratulate Chief Minister Maheepala Herath for being able to earn a Gandi Award.
“Development of education is a main goal of the ‘Mahinda Chinthanaya’. We are pleased to give our assistance to achieve this goal of the government”, the High Commissioner further said.
Chief Minister Maheepala Herath, Kegalle District Parliamentarian Kanaka Herath, Kegalle Education Director H.M. Hemawathi Hamine , Principal of St. Mary’s College A. Arumugam also spoke at the occasion.
