Amba introduces Investment Analysis...
Amba Research Lanka introduced the Investment Analysis Training programme to senior representatives from Sri Lanka’s leading universities and academic institutes at an event held at Galadari Hotel.
The programme is aimed at advancing the knowledge base of budding capital market practitioners in Sri Lanka. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chairman Dr. Nalaka Godahewa delivered the keynote address at the event and officially announced the SEC’s endorsement of the programme.
The programme targets final-year graduates and professional accountants seeking employment in the capital markets industry. Participants will follow a real-life investment analysis cycle: Analysing the competitive dynamics of a given industry, building detailed earnings models that capture a high level of revenue/cost driver detail and establishing a defensible valuation range using multiple methods.
Amba’s training programmes are run by highly skilled capital market practitioners and CFA charterholders. Amba’s inaugural programme, the Equity Analyst training programme, has enjoyed the CFA Institute’s Approved-Provider Programme status since 2009.
Commenting at the event, Dr. Godahewa said, “The SEC is pleased to endorse Amba’s Investment Analysis training programme. The programme will act as a preliminary starting point for young Sri Lankan graduates looking to enter the capital markets industry. This kind of training will provide graduates with the requisite foundation skills to advance their employability within the industry. Industry training is a significant aspect of the SEC’s capital markets roadmap and we are glad to recognize Amba’s contribution to this goal.”
In addition to the SEC’s endorsement, the programme has also received accreditation from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka), the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) as a continuous professional development programme for membership.
Attendees at the event included departmental heads of leading state universities, heads of professional training institutes and senior representatives from professional accounting bodies.
Amba Research Country Head and Director Chanakya Dissanayake commented, “The training programme will provide users with invaluable global best practices in investment research.
Given the development of Sri Lanka’s equity and debt capital, creating a well-trained pool of investment research professionals capable of working at institutional investors, investment banks and other sell-side firms in Sri Lanka is of paramount importance.”
