DELHI INDIA’S GLOBALLY RENOWNED CULTURAL CAPITAL

India’s capital city Delhi is a amazing place to visit for its contrasts, high cultural interest and for spectacula­r natural beauty . Today this incredible cosmopolit­an city is a bustling, rapidly developing place with full of traffic and crowds.

The natural and historical attraction­s of Delhi appeal to many visitors from all parts of the world. Delhi stands in a triangle formed by the river Yamuna or Jumna in the east and spurs from the Aravali range in the west and south. Delhi for being at the crossroads of many cultures is a land of history, filled with the memory of many told and untold events.The city is divided into Old and New city.The Old Delhi, is a labyrinth of narrow lanes. The imperial city of New Delhi created by the British Raj is composed of spacious, tree-lined avenues.

The Delhi Metro is a modern public transporta­tion system network consisting of six lines with dozens of stations provides various fast links between the city zone and the suburbs.The scenery as it unfolds during the trip in a metro across the city can be a fantastic experience for a tourist. Delhi has previously hosted two Asian Games and was the host city for the 2010 Commonweal­th Games.

Delhi is a unique scenic destinatio­n that offers the visitors an exhausting list of attraction­s and unmatched experience. Among its highest-esteemed attraction­s in the capital is the 17th century Red Fort complex also know as Lal Qila made of red sand stones.

As one of the most populous place the 42-metre tall hexagonal complex India Gate is the national monument of India, situated in the heart of New Delhi. Since 1971 India Gate has been theTomb for unknown soldiers is a perfect choice for tourists to observe the spellbindi­ng scenic views of the city. Of those the most exotic popular places-of-interest in Delhi other than the India Gate is the Akshardham a Hindu temple complex ,the Lotus Temple the Bahá’í House of Worship , Rashtrapat­i Bhawan the official residence of the President of India and the Rajya Sabha are some of the prominent attraction­s to enjoy the charm of life of the city .

The other breath-taking sites visitors can see in this city are the Safdarjung’s Tomb set in a beautiful garden.It was built in 1754 for the Prime Minister of Emperor Mohamed Shah ,the famous 238 ft Qutub Minar built according to Indo –Islamic architectu­re is the highest stone tower in the country built on the ruins of the Red Citadel known as Lal Kot. The Jama Masjid that can house 20,000 people is the largest and most splendid mosque in India built in 1656 by Emperor Shah Jahan and the Humayun’s Tomb, the mausoleum of Mughal Emperor Humayun built according to Mughal architectu­re in 1565 is one of the most recognizab­le and best-known monuments in the city.

Delhi is also modern in every sense of the word with numerous specialty shops, boutiques and colourful markets, shopping centres with the largest retail shopping malls. University of Delhi establishe­d in 1922 is one of the most prestigiou­s Institutes in the city. Delhi has a rich heritage of art and the national historical treasures that are preserved in many museums throughout the city.

The National Museum that displays a variety of articles ranging from the pre-historic era to modern works, covering more than 5,000 years of Indian cultural heritage. Greetings are an important part of the social interactio­n. “Namaste” is the Delhiites’ common way of greeting outsiders. Delhiites’ have always been and still are hospitable people who deeply respect their guests and love to assist others. Delhi has number of theatres alongside music venues, art galleries and a range of other places where the arts can be appreciate­d.

Bollywood and Hollywood cinema has captured the interest of many Delhiites’. It is also a place of varied cultures and traditiona­l grace and numerous festivals. Delhi is not just admired for its beauty but also for its love for the theatre, films, music and dances.The things to do in this beautiful city might not be found else where in the world.
