Leave to appeal: SC reserves order

A Divisional Bench of five Supreme Court Judges yesterday reserved order on the preliminary objections raised by parliamentarians R. Sampanthan and Vijitha Herath who challenged the Special Leave to Appeal filed by the Attorney General.
Attorney General had filed a Special Leave to Appeal against the judgment of the Court of Appeal, which quashed the decision of the Report of the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) against Chief Justice 43, Shir- ani A. Bandaranayake.
The Court of Appeal had delivered its judgment on four writ petitions, which sought to prohibit the Parliamentary Select Committee members from continuing the investigation into the allegations of misbehaviour or incapacity against Chief Justice Bandaranayake. The Special Leave to Appeal filed by the Attorney General against the judgment of the Court of Appeal came up yesterday before a Bench comprising Justices Saleem Marsoof, P.A. Ratnayake, Sathya Hettige, Eva Wanasundera and Rohini Marasinghe.
