E Wis Lock Horns to power Southern Sharks

Colombo June 6. 2013 ; Known for its dynamism and sports centric culture, E Wis group of companies has taken the initiative to sponsor the “Southern Sharks” at the third version of Carlton Sevens Rugby Football tournament for the third consecutiv­e year. The tournament will be held on 27th & 28th June in Galle and 3rd & 4th August in Colombo,this year.

As the franchise owner, E Wis will finance the entire endeavour, which will see lavish profession­al fees to the players ,chosen from a competitiv­e bidding process ,and the coaching /management team comprising the Head Coach, Assistant Coach, Trainer , Medical officer and Team Manager. The commitment by the company will contribute to uplifting the oval ball game on home soil and encouragin­g the youth to take to the game more seriously as they are immensely benefitted with cash rewards.

“As we looked at the blue print of the Carlton Sevens three years back which was the brain child of Hon MP Namal Rajapaksa We could envisage the value of the turn key initiative that was going to uplift the game ,lives of the players and coaches and the overall Rugby scenario in Sri Lanka. As a sports centric organizati­on , We welcomed the invitation by hon Namal Rajapaksa to join hands and considered a duty towards this marvelous sports loved by many of us. I would like to attribute the success of the tournament to the able guidance of dynamic Namal Rajapaksa who has been able to steer the entire initiative to greater heights along with his team” opines sports loving chairman /CEO of E wis group of companies, Mr Sanjeewa Wickrmanay­ake.

This year’s southern sharks will comprise of Srinath Sooriyaban­dara,Dellep Selvam,Oshan Perera,Chanaka Chandimal,Kanchana Rathnayake,Charith Senevirath­ne,Rajith Abeykoon,Mohamed Sashan,Asith Wijesignhe,Radhika Hettiarchc­hi,Sajith Shuail,Cload Chanaka,Dushs Peries,Zalique Jayah.The team will be coached by former All Blacks player Edwin cocker while he will be assisted by former CR & FC - Sri Lanka Fly half Asanga Rodrigo.

Southern Sharks own its very own legacy in the short history of Carlton sevens as the team emerged the very first champions of the first leg of the tournament and overall runner up in 2011.Last year the team ended up at the fifth place, thus the plans are afoot to regain the lost glory in the third version of Carlton sevens.
