Mithundi stars for Visakhians
Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo’s left extreme Mithundi Senaviratne was in fine form in scoring a hat-trick to help her school defeat Sirimavo Bandaranaike Model School, Matale by the massive margin of 9-0 to enter the pre-quarter finals of the All Island girls schools hockey championship organised by the Sri Lanka Schools Hockey Association and played at the Nandimithra Ekanayake International Hockey Stadium, Matale yesterday. At the breather the Visakhians led 4-0.
Mithundi Ekanayake displayed excellent stick work and from the start punched holes in the opponents to score the first four goals with exceptional skills. The other goal scorers for Visakha Girls College were centre forward Yelani Perera (2), centre half Akshi Nanayakkara (1), right extreme Madhushani Wijesiri (1), and centre forward Anjani Koshila (1).
The other schools which entered the pre-quarter finals are St. Anthony’s Girls College, Kandy, Seetha Devi Bali- ka Vidyalaya, Kandy, Jaffna College, Sangamitta Balika Vidyalaya, Matale, Janadhipathi Vidyalaya, Nawala, Musaeus College, Colombo, Sirimavo Bandaranaike Girls College, Colombo, Pushpadana Girls College, Kandy.
Sangamitta Girls College, Matale did well to defeat St. Joseph’s Girls College, Kegalle 3-0 after leading 2-0 at the breather. The Matale schools scored their goals through Vinodhya Lakshani (1), Navinjala Ekanayake (1) and Sandaruwani (1).
The result of some of the other matches played were: St. Anthony’s Girls College, Kandy beat Sirimavo Bandaranaike Model School, Matale 8-0, Janadhipathi Vidyalaya, Nawala beat Gothami Balika Vidyalaya, Kandy 6-1, Seetha Devi Balika Vidyalaya beat Bishops College, Colombo 1-0, Gothami Balika Vidyalaya, Colombo beat Jaffna College 1-0.
