ROBBERY SUSPECTS ARRESTED AFTER SIX YEARS

Three suspects, who had allegedly robbed cash, jewellery and property from a house at Washington Junction in Bulathsinh­ala, after entering a house disguised as army soldiers, were taken into custody by the Kalutara Divisional Criminal Investigat­ion Unit after five years of the incident.

They were produced in front of the Matugama Additional Magistrate Chamara Weerasuriy­a, who ordered them to be remanded until July 23.

This gang had allegedly entered the house when the only occupants had been three women on February 3, 2007 at about 7 in the evening and had said that they wished to search the premises for weapons. Thereafter they had taken jewellery, cash and property from the house at gun point, police told the court. The gang had got away with jewellery worth Rs. 61,500, Rs. 152,000 in cash and property worth of Rs.23, 700. The police said that they had been able to locate a part of the jewellery that had been stolen from the scene together with the pistol that had been used by the culprits. nal Investigat­ion Unit OIC SI Saman Sri Padmalal, assisted by Sergeants Weerasena, Dayasena, Jayantha and Gunawarden­a, together with PCs. Vithana, Sarath, Sameera and Ratnayake, had made the arrests.
