Ousted CJ’s lawyers seek ruling on initial objections

Lawyers appearing for Chief Justice 43 Dr. Shirani Bandaranay­ake yesterday sought a ruling on the preliminar­y objections filed previously alleging that two of the three Commission­ers were biased.

Dr. Bandaranay­ake had in her objections said the Commission Chairman Justice Balapatabe­ndi and Commission­er Jayantha Wickramara­tne were ‘actually and apparently’ biased against her.

Sources said her lawyers had insisted that the investigat­ion was a witch-hunt personally motivated against her.

Dr. Bandaranay­ake had referred to the headline on a news item published, on Saturday July 13, in a Sinhala newspaper.

The mentioned article had intimated among other assertions that a ruling would be given yesterday.
