UNP concludes inquiry on Dayasiri

The United National Party (UNP) Working Committee on Tuesday concluded the disciplina­ry inquiry on its MPs Dayasiri Jayasekera and Buddhika Pathirana.

He would be allowed to participat­e in the party’s campaign

The disciplina­ry inquiry against him had been completed.The matter had ended and he would continue to work with the party

Four others were given a conditiona­l pardon.

The Daily Mirror reliably learns that several members including MP Akila Viraj Kariyawasa­m and Sajith Premadasa had wanted the disciplina­ry inquiry against Mr. Jayasekera to be concluded.

Party sources said Mr. Jayasekera would be allowed to participat­e in the party’s campaign at the elections to the provincial councils.

Mr. Jayaskera when contacted by Daily Mirror also confirmed that the disciplina­ry inquiry against him had been completed. He said the matter had ended and he would continue to work with the party.

Meanwhile the working committee had also decided to focus on maintainin­g unity among party members and to launch an effective campaign. Nomination­s for the three provincial councils will be finalised by a 10-member nomination board which comprises party leader Ranil Wickremesi­nghe, General Secretary Tissa Attanayake, party seniors John Amaratunga, Ravi Karunanaya­ke, Daya Gamage, Joseph Michael Perera, Gayantha Karunatill­eke, Mangala Samaraweer­a and Lakshman Kiriella. The nomination board met yesterday at the party headquarte­rs Sirikotha.
