FRENCH AMBASSADOR HOPES FOR A BREAKTHROUGH
The August 2006 killing of the 17 aid workers employed by the Paris-based organisation Action Contre la Faim (ACF) is an important issue for the people and the government of France.
Christine Robichon, French Ambassador to Sri Lanka and the Maldives said that she was looking forward to seeing a breakthrough before the end of her mission, in the investigations into the killing of 17 aid workers employed by the Paris based Action Contre la Faim (ACF) (or Action against Hunger) in August, 2006 .
Ms. Robichon told Daily Mirror by email in response to a query about the matter that it would remain a ‘matter of serious concern’ as long as t he perpetrators were not brought to book.
“The August 2006 killing of the 17 aid workers employed by the Parisbased organisation Action Contre la Faim (ACF) is an important issue for the people and the government of France. It will remain a matter of serious concern as long as it will stay unpunished,” she said.
She said that she had regularly expressed her concern during her meetings with the officials concerned,.
“I have a continuous and cordial dialogue with the Attorney General, who keeps me informed of the work of his office regarding this matter. I am looking for- ward to see a breakthrough before the end of my mission i n Sri Lanka,” she said.Earlier, the Attorney General’s Department said that investigations were in progress, and action would be taken against the culprits.
The government has also indicted those accused of killing five students in Trincomalee in August, 2006.
