JVP has helped in her search for Prageeth

- BY OLINDHI JAYASUNDERE

Missing journalist Prageeth Ekneligoda’s wife Sandhya said yesterday the JVP had continued to supported her in her heart-breaking search for her husband and said she was not convinced by MP Arundhika Fernando’s most recent statement with regard to Prageeth Testifying in court on Tuesday Mr. Fernando said JVP MP Sunil Handunnhetti had informed him that he had seen Ekneligoda in Belgium. However Ms. Ekneligoda said she did not believe it as it was unlikely that Handunnhetti had divulged such information to him. “I have had very good ties with the JVP and they have always supported me in my efforts to find Prageeth. If he was alive, Sunil Handunnhetti would have personally informed me of it a long time ago,” Ms.Ekneligoda said.

She said Mr. Handunnhetti

was one of the first to raise questions in parliament with regard to my husband’s disappearance in 2010 and charged that Mr. Fernando has used the JVP member as a part of a ploy to create confusion and ambiguity over her husband’s disappearance.“Everyone knows that the JVP identifies itself differently from other political groups and it was easy for him to associate the JVP with this situation. By making one false confession after another he believes that he will be able to convince the people. But I don’t believe it,” she said. She said Mr. Fernando’s statement was not convincing as he did not provide a date, time or venue where Ekneligoda had purportedly been seen by Handunnhetti in Belgium. “If Arundhika Fernando had actually found out this information he could have informed the relevant authorities. But he had not. There is no proof to show he did,” Ms. Ekneligoda said. Commenting on peoples perceptions of the recurrent confessions made by the Mr. Fernando, she said people were aware of the actual facts pertaining to his disappearance and that the people knew the truth. “Everyone knows that he’s missing. If not they should prove otherwise and bring him home,” she said.
