Minister De Silva meets Indian High Commission­er

At a meeting with Indian High Commission­er, Minister and Parliament­ary Select Committee (PSC) Chairman Nimal Siripala De Silva said yesterday he was disappoint­ed that the main opposi- tion United National Party (UNP), the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) and the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) were not participat­ing in the PSC deleberati­ons.

posed amendments to the Constituti­on and outlined its objectives as that of submiting proposals for changes to the 13th Amendment to the Constituti­on while consolidat­ing national integratio­n and sustainabl­e peace among all communitie­s in Sri Lanka.

The minister said the PSC was the best forum to discuss issues pertaining to the national question with all stakeholde­rs and arrive at solutions through dialogue and compromise. “But sadly the opposition has ignored this opportunit­y,” he said. “The participa- tion of the TNA in the PSC is extremely vital to conclude the deliberati­ons successful­ly and I hope the TNA and the UNP will take part in the proceeding­s at least at a later stage.”

Indian High Commission’s political affairs counsel R Ravindra al- so participat­ed in the discussion.
