‘UNLAWFUL PRADESHIYA SABHA MEMBERS PUT GOVT. IN DISREPUTE’

Health Minister Maithripal­a Sirisena yesterday said unlawful behaviour of Pradeshiya Sabha chairmen and members have brought disrepute to the entire local government system of the country, and stern action would be taken against the offenders.

He said this while addressing a public meeting at a foundation ceremony held to begin the constructi­on work of the proposed weekly fair in the Thamankadu­wa Pradeshiya Sabah area in Polonnaruw­a.

“The colossal expenditur­e on new buildings and human resources allocated to the local government bodies fade into insignific­ance in the face of the disrepute brought by the chairmen and other representa­tives. However, the government is not prepared to allow this situation to go on unchecked. The party and the government will take a drastic decision in this regard soon. It is sad that the local government administra­tion in the country has deteriorat­ed and the representa­tives of local authoritie­s have lost their past dignity” He further said.

Chairman of the Thamankadu­wa Pradeshiya Sabha Premasiri Munasinghe and several others addressed this gathering.
