MATALE, ROYAL INTL SCHOOLS CLASH IN FIRST BIG MATCH

The inaugural under 17 and 15 Twenty20 cricket fixtures and Netball encounters (u/17 and 15) between two Internatio­nal Schools, Matale Internatio­nal School, Matale and Royal Internatio­nal School, Kurunegala organised by Matale Internatio­nal School, will get underway at the Bernard Aluvihare Stadium, Matale on Thursday July 18th commencing at 9 am.

The cricket encounter is being played for the Sirimavo Bandaranai­ke Memorial Challenge trophy and the players are expected to wear coloured clothing for the play.

Ihthisham Imthiyas will captain Matale Interntaio­nal with M. Shakeel captaining Royal Internatio­nal, while under the captaincy of Dinura Perera MIS will take on RIS Kurunegala led by M. Ubaidulla in the under 15 match.

Led by Nipuni Wansuriya the under 17 netball team of RIS, Kurunegala will meet MIS, skippered by Thilini Gunasekara while Nadushi Sena-

nayake will lead RIS under 15, Kurunegala team against MIS captained by Dinusha Samararath­na. The Netball encounter is being played for the Monty Gopallawa Memorial Challenge Trophy.

In addition to the Challenge trophies, awards are on offer for the best batsman, bowler and man of the match in both cricket matches and also for the two best players in the net ball fixtures.

The two Internatio­nal Schools from the two cities, Kurunegala and Matale will treat the cricket and netball fixtures as the traditiona­l big matches of the two schools that and be continued as their annual fixture in the future.
