The TNA is going to play big cards by appointing a person who was a Supreme Court judge in place of someone who has been in politics for a long time, seeking to have an edge over others

The TNA’s fielding of former Supreme Court Judge S.C.Wigneswaran to contest the Northern Provincial Council elections shows that they consider the UPFA government as a force to reckon with in the upcoming contest, Foreign Employment Promotion Minister, Dilan Perera said addressing a press conference yesterday.

“The TNA is going to play big cards by appointing a person who was a Supreme Court judge in place of someone who has been in politics for a long time in order to have an edge over others”, he said.

When questioned about the alleged comments made by Minister S.M. Chandrasena about the need to investigate into the rulings given by former Justice Wigneswaran, Mr. Perera said “There is nothing wrong in investigations about the rulings he had given in the past and considerable doubt has been cast about his rulings, but this is not the first time that a former judge has stepped into the political arena”.

He said he endorsed the implementation of the 13th Amendment to the constitution adding that it could be a good starting point to decide on the powers that have to be vested with the Provincial Councils.
