Education Ministry’s blunders inconvenience Grade Six students
The Grade six term examination papers which were given to students of schools in the North Central Province with the attached answers were the same papers which were given at the first term examination last year, UNP MP P. Harrison charged yesterday.
The UNP MP said this proved there had been blunders in the setting of term examination question papers in the province before as well.
He said the officers attached to the provincial ministry of education North Central Province had failed to detect the printed answers that were attached to the term examination question paper after having gone through the proofs several times.
Mr. Harrison charged that the officers had come to Colombo hiring a bus twice to read the proofs, but still did not detect that the answers were attached to the question papers.
Also he said the education authorities in the province had given the contract of printing question papers to their henchmen in the guise of giving it to the state printing press. He therefore said the provincial education authorities had got the government printers to award subcontracts to a party which was known to them. He alleged that these contracts had been given without calling for tenders.
He said some 18,000 students were facing great inconvenience as they would have to sit for the same examination on August 30.
