POLYTHENE SHEET KILLS BABY

A six month old baby had been suffocated by a thin sheet of polythene while asleep in her home in Gan- dara, Matara.

The girl’s father had seen the polythene sheet covering the face of the baby and taken it off. He had observed that the baby seemed to be in bad shape and rushed her to the Matara General Hospital

polythene sheets used for packeting rice that had been kept on top of a wardrobe. The polythene film had come to rest on the face of the sleeping baby and prevented her from breathing and thus caused her death.

This tragedy had occurred soon after her mother had breast fed the baby and gone to prepare the food for the family members to break their Ramadhan fast.

The girl’s father had seen the polythene sheet covering the face of the baby and taken it off. He had observed that the baby seemed to be in bad shape and rushed her to the Matara General Hospital.

The doctors had found that the baby was dead by the time she reached hospital.

H.A. Raheem, the Matara inquirer into sudden deaths had conducted the inquest.

The post-mortem was due to be held yesterday (18) at the Matara Hospital.
