- BY SARASI PARANAMANNA

A one stop shop for all your hospitability requirements is like a wish come true… From hotels to restaurants, every requirement in the hospitality industry could be taken care of by PromoLanka Marketing Pvt Ltd (PLM) and through its subsidiary holdings. With the hotel Show 2013 coming up the PLM is geared up not only to showcase their products but to share their knowledge and experience with other stakeholders in the hospitality industry. In this context, chairman of PLM Azad Mansoor had a chat with us about how he is planning to contribute towards the improvement of the hospitality industry by offering quality products and services.

Q: PromoLanka has been in business since 2004 and is also a well known brand in the hospitality industry. With such little time since the inception how did you manage to make PLM such a huge success?

Since 2004 we have worked tirelessly to satisfy our customers’ requirements. I think the main reason for our success is our continuous focus on the product quality offered with uncompromised service. PromoLanka has not been selling just products. We at PromoLanka firmly believe in the service attached to selling a particular product. We understand that not only do we have to have the product ranges but also to stock all of them to enable the customers’ request could be serviced at any given time. Even after selling the product we try to constantly stay in touch with the customer informing about him about after sales services, new products etc.

Q. Being in the hospitality industry is about the art of constantly pleasing the customers. How has PromoLanka mastered this art?

We try to look at things from the perspectives of our clients and in the hospitality industry where service is the primary agenda, we try to provide a platform that would enable our clients to focus on their customers needs and by doing so, we try not only to be a mere supplier but by also adding value by providing tailor made solutions and thereby expanded our portfolio in various sectors from IT solutions to design based consultancy to constantly improve standards and increase the efficiency to meet world standards.

Q. PromoLanka can be seen as a ‘one stop shop’ in the industry, could you describe how you are able to give such a

comprehensive solution.?

We at PLM try to understand the constant demands and changes in the market place and by identifying these we have set up the infrastructure to cater to any client. Say , a client with the intention of getting into the industry, first would have to identify the space, from there on, we provide a architectural and design based solution partnering up a world renounced, architect, Gempiero Piea from Italy, consult on the requirements in regards to the back of house operations designs, MEP requirements work flows and provide the supporting equipment for kitchen, bakery , laundry and cold rooms, whilst also bringing comprehensive IT solutions for back office and guest facing systems with upto date technology that would increase the efficiency and reduce lead times. Further we have the comprehensive solution for food & beverage segment and also recently upgraded all the products under the housekeeping division, in regards to bed, bath and table linen requirements. “most importantly we have specialists in each division knowledgeable on industry standards and looking to make a positive impact on the Sri Lankan hospitality market”

Q. Earlier you stated quality products and services are the main focus areas in your business. Why do you think quality is that much important in the hospitality industry?

With any business, quality is the key to success. But with regard to the hospitality industry, quality needs to be specially focused on because that is the key to increase customer satisfaction whether they are spending a holiday in a hotel or whether they dining in a restaurant. For instance if the products they are using are of inferior quality their holiday experience or the dining experience is ruined no matter how much hospitable or experienced the staff is. Whether it is the preparation of a food dish or whether it is putting linen on beds the customer expects the best and without the best products it is impossible to fully satisfy the customers. Without customer satisfaction the hospitality industry would not be of success.

Q. What are your contributions especially to the culinary field in the hospitality industry

with regard to Hotel Show 2013?

The Hotel Show will be taking place on the 26th, 27th and the 28th of July. Being one of the gold sponsors this year and have been sponsoring the hotel show for the last 4 events, We have also undertaken to sponsor the Bocuse d’Or competition this year that will be happening as part of the Hotel Show on the 26th of July. This competition is a prestigious culinary competition which will be choosing Sri Lanka’s best chef to represent Sri Lanka at the World Bocuse d’Or Competition. By sponsoring these events we would like to showcase the strength and our commitment to the hospitality cause and enable a platform for all stakeholders in the industry to grow from strength to strength.
