Biyagama PS member (UPFA), 5 others remanded
A ( UPFA) member of the Biyagama Pradeshiya Sabha along with five more suspects were yesterday remanded till August 2 by Mahara Magistrate Ms Dharshika Wimalasiri after they were produced in court on charges of unlawful assembly, use of fire arms, assault and causing grievous bodily harm .
They were arrested by the Sapugaskanda Police following a complaint made to them by K.J. Kumara Liyanage of Kirillewela, Kadawatha.
They were also ordered to be presented for an identification parade.
The complainant had been assaulted by the suspects who had allegedly intimidated him and ordered him to stop construction work on a house being built by him in the Heiyanthuduwa area, court was informed by PC 36589 S.S. Thilakarathna of the Sapugaskanda Police. The police opposed the granting of bail as the case had been filed under the Fire Arms ACT.
Attorney-at-Law Mahesh Katulanda, who appeared on behalf of the suspects, pleaded that his clients should be granted conditional bail as fire arms had not been detected in the possession of the suspects.
OIC of the Sapugaskanda police IP P.G.S.R Sanjeewa led the prosecution.
