Biyagama PS member (UPFA), 5 others remanded

A ( UPFA) member of the Biyagama Pradeshiya Sabha along with five more suspects were yesterday remanded till August 2 by Mahara Magistrate Ms Dharshika Wimalasiri after they were produced in court on charges of unlawful assembly, use of fire arms, assault and causing grievous bodily harm .

They were arrested by the Sapugaskan­da Police following a complaint made to them by K.J. Kumara Liyanage of Kirillewel­a, Kadawatha.

They were also ordered to be presented for an identifica­tion parade.

The complainan­t had been assaulted by the suspects who had allegedly intimidate­d him and ordered him to stop constructi­on work on a house being built by him in the Heiyanthud­uwa area, court was informed by PC 36589 S.S. Thilakarat­hna of the Sapugaskan­da Police. The police opposed the granting of bail as the case had been filed under the Fire Arms ACT.

Attorney-at-Law Mahesh Katulanda, who appeared on behalf of the suspects, pleaded that his clients should be granted conditiona­l bail as fire arms had not been detected in the possession of the suspects.

OIC of the Sapugaskan­da police IP P.G.S.R Sanjeewa led the prosecutio­n.
