Avissawella Chief Magistrate D H A Seneviratne directed the Mayor of Dehiwala-Mt Lavinia and the caretaker of the Mt Lavinia cemetery to secure the burial grounds of the late N A Nihal Perera, the superintendent of the Deraniyegala Noori estate, who was murdered recently.

The magistrate’s order stated that the burial ground should be demarcated and no other bodies should be buried in future at this site.

The judge gave this order on Wednesday (24) after considering the submissions of the attorneys who represented the aggrieved party. The magistrate also directed that copies of this order be made available to the complainants, for them to be delivered and the matter reported to courts.

Attorneys PC Shanaka Ranasinghe, A S M Misbah, Asanga Senaratne and Ms P Priyangika made this request from courts while appearing for the aggrieved party. This request was made having considered the possibility of a future DNA test being performed, and access to same would be uninterrupted.

The chief inspector of the CID, who was leading the prosecution case, Jagath Rohana, too agreed to abide by this decision. The magistrate further said that this order would be enforced until such time the preliminary investigations into the case were completed and fresh orders issued.

The suspects were represented by attorneys Nishantha Sandalal Wijendra, and Premalal Wickramaratne.
