DAUGHTER-IN-LAW SET ON FIRE BY FATHER-IN-LAW

A man who is alleged to have set his daughterin-law on fire after smearing her with thinner was arrested by the Seeduwa police. This senseless crime had taken place early in the morning while the woman was preparing milk for her infant.

The victim identified as S. Lakshika Sudarshani Rosa was 27-years-old and a mother of two children living at Kurana in Katunayaka.

Police said their preliminar­y investigat­ions had revealed that the woman’s 59-year-old father-in-law Upali Grero had reportedly committed the crime but the motive for which was yet to be ascertaine­d.

The neighbours rushed to her rescue on hearing her scream and took her to the Negombo Hospital but it was too late. She died on admission to hospital.
