Teenager robs old woman to buy a present for girlfriend

A man who allegedly robbed an elderly woman of her belongings by strangling her, to find money to buy a present for his girlfriend was arrested by the police and was produced in court. He was remanded till August 2, by Nawalapitiya Magistrate L.K. Mahinda.

The 19-year-old suspect identified as Abdul Raheem Mohamed Ajmal had fallen in love with a Muslim girl by chatting on the phone.

After the girl had expressed her wish to have a dress as a present for the Ramadan worth around Rs. 12,000, this frustrated young man had robbed the elderly woman.

Having seen that the woman was still alive, he had stabbed her with a knife.

After regaining consciousness, the woman had cried for help. The neighbours had come to her rescue and rushed her to Nawalapitiya hospital.
