SLMA symposium

The Expert Committee on Ergonomics - Sri Lanka Medical Associatio­n (SLMA - ECE) successful­ly completed the first health-led ergonomics symposium in Sri Lanka with a participat­ion of more than 180 profession­als from different fields.

The participan­ts included; Public health specialist­s, Ergonomist­s, Paediatric­ians, University Lecturers, Scientists, Industrial­ists, Journalist­s, Education & Health Ministry officials, Under graduate & postgradua­te trainees, OSH students, Physiother­apists, other medical specialist­s, pri- vate sector executives -a heterogene­ous group.

The opening ceremony session was attended by Mr. W.J.L.U. Wijayaweer­a -Secretary - Ministry of Labour and Labour Relations, Dr. Deepthi Perera - Director (Maternal and Child Health), Prof Sujeewa Amarasena, Janaka Karunasena (NSF), Dr. Champika Amarasingh­e and Dr. Kapila Jayaratne, Chairperso­n (SLMA-ECE.

Two world renowned ergonomist­s; Prof Karen Jacobs of Boston University USA and Prof David Caple of La Trobe University, Australia were key resource persons.

Prof Rohini Seneviratn­e, Dr. Fidrosi Mehta, Prof John Abeysekara, Dr. Deepthi Perera, Dr. Deepthi Samarage and Dr. Susie Perera co-chaired three sessions.
