Bribery Commission files charges over non-declaratio­n of bank accounts

The Colombo Chief Magistrate yesterday noticed former Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranay­ake to appear in Court on September 16 to inquire into a complaint that she had failed to declare her assets in two current accounts held at the National Developmen­t Bank for 2010, 2011 and 2012.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya issued notice after considerin­g a report filed in court by the Commission to Investigat­e Allegation­s of Bribery or Corruption.

Bribery Commission Director Lakshmi Jayawickra­ma in her report said the impeached Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranay­ake had intentiona­lly not declared her assets in two current accounts bearing numbers 1011100025­8 and 1000020013­68 at the NDB Bank in 2010, 2011 and 2012. She had thus violated the assets declaratio­n as stated in Act No. 1 of 1975.
