Srilankan says…
“With reference to the article headlined, “SriLankan flight damaged while landing at BIA”, appearing in one of the weekend newspapers on Sunday,
SriLankan would like to clarify that on Tuesday July 2, UL flight 266 arriving from Riyadh experienced a tail strike incident which caused some damage to the tail section of the aircraft when it was landing at the Bandaranaike International Airport.
The matter is now under investigation by the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka. SriLankan would like to stress that the opinion expressed in the news article would have to be considered as speculative until the investigations into the matter were completed.”
Editor’s note
Our sister paper, The Sunday Times quoted Civil Aviation Authority Chairman Retd General Rohan Daluwatte, who said that initial investigations indicated that a pilot error caused the accident. The CAA is the investigation arm of the incident.
