- BY H. H. DARMAPALA

‘Red Notices’ were issued to a number of supermarkets in Dehiwla-Mount Lavinia after several complaints were received about their appalling conditions with regard to the condition of the food items sold by them.

The raids were carried out under the guidance of the Public Health Inspector (PHI) Indika Ellawala. During the raid more than six kilogrammes of fish which were not suitable for human consumption were confiscated. They were destroyed at the premises itself with the agreement of the Supermarket Management.

Notices were issued to destroy confiscated tins of canned fish which were not suitable for human consumption.

The Health Inspectors reported that certain showrooms were not properly maintained. Therefore red notices were issued to those shops. Those shops must be cleaned within three days and must be reported to the Public Health Bureau.

The raids were carried out by the Chief Public Health Inspector Jayantha Daluwakgoda together with public Health Inspectors T.J.J.H Peiris and Shehan Rajapakse.
