Six nabbed in largest heroin haul in South
The police also took into custody a trishaw and a motor cycle used by the suspects for transporting the heroin
The Matara division police anti-vice squad had busted a racket involving trafficking in Rs. 40 million worth of heroin, when they arrested six suspects on Sunday night in the Habaraduwa area of Galle with a stock of the contraband.
The stock in their possession weighed 1 kilo and 61 grams, and police believe it was the largest stock of heroin taken into custody at any one time from the Southern Province. The police also took into custody a trishaw and a motorcycle used by the suspects for transporting the heroin. The raid had been conducted by a special team of police officers on a tip-off received by sergeant Ashoka Priyankara of the AntiVice Squad of the Matara division.
