VASUDEVAN HEADS MATALE FORUM
Matale Thomians, who played hockey for the ‘alma-mater’, St. Thomas’, during the period 19701980, including the players of the 1979-80 College senior hockey team, who still stand tall as a landmark in the hockey history of the college, met recently at Pegasus Reef Hotel at Hendala, Wattala for a get-together and the outcome was the formation of “St. Thomas Matale Hockey Stars (1970-80) Forum”.
Speaking to Daily Mirror, Eric Hulangamuwa who captained the college hockey team 1979/80 as well as the Sri Lanka Schools hockey team said that the aim of the forum was to continue the friendship formed in school, to help the school with their resources and also to include and develop hockey in the District, outside Matale town where talent and basic facilities for the promotion of hockey is available.
They also decided to felicitate past hockey players of the college, past hockey coaches and masters in charge of hockey during that period.
Former hockey player P. Vasudevan (Managing Director of Associated Pharma Ceylon (Pvt.) Ltd. was unanimously elected President of the Forum with Eric Hulangamuwa, who captained the St. Thomas’ 1979/80 hockey team and the Sri Lanka schools hockey team as the school secretary.
