The committee meeting was chaired by Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa and attended by House Leader Nimal Siripala de Silva, Chief Opposition Whip John Amaratunga and Parliament Secretary General W.B.D. Dasanayake.
The Madiwela housing complex was built in 1994. It will be relocated in the new township of Thalapathpitiya on a block of land identified for this purpose with all the required facilities.
The Finance and Planning Ministry will guide and supervise the construction of the new housing complex by M/s Sumitomo Mitsui Construction Company Ltd. The Cabinet approval will be obtained for the proposal soon. However, the cost of the project is yet to be ascertained.
