‘Wonder of Asia becomes model for world tyranny’

The government has turned the ‘Pearl of the Indian Ocean’ of a tyrannical state by killing innocent civilians who stage protest campaigns for their rightful demands

The government that came to power with the pledge to make Sri Lanka the wonder of Asia has turned it into a failed state and a role model for a modern world tyranny, UNP strongman Sajith Premadasa said.

Addressing a ceremony held to distribute interest free loan facilities for self employment projects to 250 unemployed women at Sitinamaluwa in the Beliatta constituency, Mr. Premadasa said the government has turned the ‘Pearl of the Indian Ocean’ into a tyrannical state by killing innocent civilians who staged protest campaigns for their rightful demands.

“The people in Weliweriya did not demand pay hikes, or to bring down the cost of living or jobs for unemployed youth. They only demanded for clean drinking water as their ground water had been contaminated by factory waste. The youth in Katunayake requiring the government to protect their ETF benefits as the government was on a move to introduce a private pension scheme robbing their EPF savings. The government fired at and killed them instead of listening and bringing a peaceful solution to their grievances. This is how the government has made Sri Lanka the “Wonder of Asia,” Mr. Premadasa said.
