DEFENDING CHAMPS ST.PETER’S CLASH WITH RICHMOND IN U15 FINALE
Under 15 Division One Final
It’s going be a fitting finale of the Under 15 Division One cricket tournament when two unbeaten teams St Peter’s Bambalapitiya who in fact are the defending champions and Richmond College Galle clash for the title at P. Sara Stadium today.
Defending champs St Peter’s spearheaded by Chathura Obeysekera in the run up to the final had a clean record in the first round where they played seven matches winning five against Thurstan, Susamyawardena MV Borella, St Benedict’s, St John’s Nugegoda and Carey while two matches against DSS and Siri Piyaratana MMV was abandoned due to rain.
The Peterites qualified to the second round having ended as the top team and played four matches winning all which were against Kalutara MV, St Servatius Matara, President’s Maharagama and St Thomas Matale.
In the pre-quarter final they defeated Trinity and then got the better of Sri Devananda Ambalangoda in the quarter final and Ananda in the semi final to remain unbeaten up to that stage.
Richmond led by Kamindu Mendis too ended as the top team in their group after the completion of the first round matches where they recorded wins over three teams from Matara St Thomas’ Rahula and St Servatius and one again st Meepawala Amarasoor- iya MMV.In the second round too they had a hundred percent record defeating Dharmapala Kottawa, Sri Devananda Ambalangoa, Asoka MV and St Aloysius Galle to end up as champions and qualify to the pre-quarter final.
In the pre-quarter final Richmond overcame Joseph Vaz Wennappuwa and followed it up with wins over Dharmasoka MV Ambalangoda and Sri Sumangala Pan- daura in the quarter and semi final encounters.
So as mentioned earlier it’s no doubt going to be a cliff hanger with both the unbeaten teams St Peter’s seeking to retain the title for yet another year and Richmond aiming to end up the tournament on a winning note and spoil the apple cart of the defending champions.
