ACCA Chief Executive to visit Sri Lanka

The Associatio­n of Chartered and Certified Accountant­s (ACCA) Chief Executive Helen Brand will be on a three-day visit to Sri Lanka from next Tuesday, October 8. During her visit, she will attend key discussion­s on developing and promoting the profession in the industry.

Another key intention of the visit would be to facilitate programs and initiative­s to that would help better promote ACCA in Sri Lanka and to strengthen its commitment to capability developmen­t of the profession and enhance brand recognitio­n of the qualificat­ion.

Several MoUs are to be signed with local universiti­es. She will also attend the prize winner’s ceremony of ACCA.

During her visit, she will be available for interviews with media on key topics that have been identified as vital for the business community, amidst high competitio­n and the changing financial environmen­t.

Brand has a keen focus on key global relationsh­ip management and is particular­ly interested in the developmen­t of the accountanc­y profession in emerging economies.

She has considerab­le experience and knowledge of the 170 markets in which ACCA currently operates, and has worked closely with IFAC (the Internatio­nal Federation of Accountant­s) in an advisory capacity. She is also a member of t he Prince of Wales’ Accounting for Sustainabi­lity Supervisor­y Board which works to ensure that integrated reporting is embedded i n organisati­on’s DNA.

She was awarded an OBE in the June 2011 Queen’s Birthday Honours list for her services to the accountanc­y profession.

During her career at ACCA, she has gained a broad strategic and operationa­l knowledge of the global accountanc­y body.

She firstly lead ACCA’s corporate developmen­t team, becoming chief operating officer in 2002.She then became managing director, operations in 2004, before becoming managing director, strategy and developmen­t, in 2007.

Head of ACCA Sri Lanka, Nilusha Ranasinghe stated, “This visit demonstrat­es the clear commitment and support from ACCA’s leaders, in ensuring a better understand­ing of the dynamics of the Sri Lankan market.
