Egodawela of Sri Lank Navy is Best Women’s Rifle shooter
Woman Communicator M.G.T.U.E. Egodawela of the Sri Lanka Navy was adjudged the best women’s Rifle Shooter at the Navy Open Shooting Championships – 2013 held at the Sri Lanka Navy Firing Range in Welisara.
Ruvini Abeymanna of the Negombo Rifle Club (NRC) emerged as the Best Pistol Shooter (women) at the meet.
The Commander Shanthi Bahar Trophy went to E.M. Senanayake of Negombo Rifle Club and the Commander Hemasiri Fernando Challenge Trophy was awarded to Able Seaman W.K.Y. Krishantha of the Sri Lanka Navy.
The Commander of the Navy Challenge Trophy was won by Sri Lanka Navy while the Runners-up Men and Women were Sri Lanka Air Force.
Sri Lanka Navy were the champion men and women shooters at the meet.
Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, Vice Admiral Jayanath Colombage graced the awards ceremony as the Chief Guest and gave away the challenge trophy to the champions.
Chief of staff of the Navy, Rear Admiral Jayantha Perera and Chairman of the National Olympic Committee, Commander (Rtd.) Hemasiri Perera gave away the trophies and medals to the winners of the respective events.
Commander Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe, Director Naval Sports, Commodore Dushyantha Amaranayake and senior officers of the tri-services were also present on the occasion.
Over one hundred and fifty competitors from renowned shooting clubs in the island including those of the tri-forces and Police competed for honours. They showcased their exceptional talents and shooting skills, which were on display throughout the competition and added excitement to the event.
