Mr. Sivajilingam, a member of Tamil Eelam Liberation Organization (TELO), was among the nine members, who refused to be sworn in by Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran last Friday.
“I believe that the LTTE combatants and the civilians sacrificed their lives at Vellamullivaikal for the liberation of the Tamil people. I took my oaths there to pay them tribute. I did it with the solemn hope that we will renew the political struggle for selfdetermination,” he said. Mr. Sivajilingam – a relative of the slain LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran took his oaths as a member of the Northern Provincial Council (NPC) before Velvettithurai District Medical Officer Dr. K. Mayulurum Perumal.
He is at odds with the TNA leadership because he was overlooked when it came to the appointment of provincial ministers.
Meanwhile, Siddharthan and another elected member T. Linganathan were sworn-in at Waddukoddai in Jaffna in the presence of PLOTE Secretary Subramanian Sadanandan.
