MERVYNJAYATUNGA

-

Mervyn Jayatunga, who was known as one of the best villains of the Sinhala cinema, passed away on November 1 in 1991, plunging the film industry into deep sorrow, largely because he was known as a true gentleman in real life.

Born on March 9, 1940, Mervyn became popular through the stage before making his entry into films.

Mervyn acted in stage plays like Hunuwataye Kathawa, Apata Puthe Magak Nethe, Ekadhipathi, Maname and others.

Having made his film debut in Chandi Putha, Mervyn proved his mettle as a good villain and one of the most sought after actors until the time of his death. He was also a fine singer.
