SRI LANKA DOWN IRELAND 65-49 FOR SECONDWIN

Sri Lanka recorded their second win of the 8th Nations Cup Netball Championsh­ip which is progress now at the Toa Payoh Hall in Singapore with a convincing 65 goals to 49 win over Republic of Ireland in the first of the three matches played yesterday.

The Sri Lankan lasses after conceding a slender four goal lead to their opponents (13-17) came back with a vengeance to grab the lead at the breather with scores reading 34-27.

They maintained their supremacy and never looked back to end up the third quarter with a 14 goal lead (50-36). In the last quarter the Sri Lankan lasses rattled the Ireland girls to end up winners by 65-49.

In the second game of the day Papua New Guinea scor- Uganda 60-32 in the last match played for the day yesterday.

The Uganda girls does not have a world ranking due to them not participat­ing in internatio­nal tournament­s but they showed that they are side to be reckoned with.

Uganda began the game with a five goal lead in the first quarter and increased it to seven for a score of 27-20 at the short whistle. The third quarter saw them increase the lead to 17 gaols (41-24) before taking the game with a 28 goal lead of 60-32.Today is a rest day and the championsh­ip will continue tomorrow with the matches scheduled to be played being Papua New Guinea vs. Republic of Ireland, Sri Lanka vs. Uganda and Singapore vs. USA.
