“THE JOURNEY” OF SRI LANKA’S ICONIC ENTERTAINE­R DESMOND DE SILVA

The much-hyped tele drama ‘Makulu Del’ produced by Vinoja Nilanthi and directed by Nihal Fernando is being telecast at 8 pm on ITN every Saturday. The tele drama is receiving good feedback from the small screen audiences. Popular actor and dancer Suraj Mapa plays an entirely different role in this creation based on two novels – ‘Landakage Kathawa’ and ‘Baloliya’; - both written by Piyasena Rathuwitha­na.

Suraj Mapa plays the lead role opposite debutant Aloka Indunil.

The rest of the cast includes Vinoja Nilanthi, Sriyantha Mendis, Hyacinth Wijeratne, Nalin Pradeep Udawela, Nilmini Kottegoda, Buddhika Jayaratne, Sandali Fernando, Sahan Fernando, Nisal Munaweera and others.

Award-winning Dinesh Subasinghe has directed the music while veteran Ajantha Ranasinghe has penned the lyrics.

Vinoja said she was planning to launch her newest tele drama production ‘Sanda Seya’ directed by Thishula Deepa Thambawita, on January 7. (SP)

Singer/ Entertaine­r, Desmond De Silva is going from strength to strength wooing crowds all over the globe as he celebrates his 50th Anniversar­y in the Entertainm­ent Industry. His journey as an entertaine­r has been unbroken which is a great achievemen­t as he competes with young talented entertaine­rs around the globe who have come from Sri Lankan origins. Desmond launched the celebratio­n of his 50th Anniversar­y global tour in July with a Free Open Air Concert in his hometown Matara. He is due to fly down to Colombo with the most popular Sri Lankan Band in Australia, Replay 6, to perform at a Concert at Musaeus College on 28th December at 7 pm titled“The Journey”. Desmond will have artistes such as Sunil Perera, Corrine, Mariezelle, Rukshan and Sandra and Eric Jackson from Australia joining him on stage on this musical journey. The concert has all the makings of a sophistica­ted musical journey through the five decades in music that promises to meet and exceed expectatio­ns.The concert in Sri Lanka is presented by DK Promotions. According to Damayantha Kuruppu of DK promotions who is the promoter of the concert, the sale of tickets in the first 4 days has been very satisfacto­ry with more than 60% of the tickets being sold. The balance tickets will go on sale onThursday 19th and Friday 20th at Galadari Hotel from 12 noon to 6 pm. Watching Desmond’s energetic performanc­es and listening to the enriched quality of his voice at the various functions around the globe there is no doubt that he will continue at full throttle for many more years to come. “The Journey” concert at Musaeus College auditorium on 28th December at 7 pm will be the highlight of Desmond’s career and should not be missed.
