Drunken drivers and violaters of traffic regulation­s arrested

A man was hacked to death and another seriously injured during a clash between two parties at Rawathawat­ta in Moratuwa. The injured was admitted to the National Hospital.

A gang travelling by trishaw had attacked the two men who were also travelling by trishaw, with sharp weapons.

Police said a previous animosity between the two gangs had resulted in the killing.

A team led by HQI Moratuwa Amal Edirimanna is conducting further investigat­ions.

Three men involved in cattle thefts,arrested

Police arrested three men including the driver of a lorry that was checked on suspicion for illegally transporti­ng cattle, and recovered a live hand grenade inside the lorry.

However no cattle were found in the lorry.Police said the three men were suspects in several thefts of cattle and the lorry had been checked on suspicion for transporti­ng cattle.

The Matugama Police Traffic Branch arrested five drunken drivers and several others who violated the traffic regulation­s, during a search operation in the Matugama town..The drunken drivers were released on police bail and ordered to appear in the Matugama Magistrate Court on Wednesday (08) and the others were spot fined.

Police said they were continuing these operations to arrest

drunken drivers.
