The Colombo Additional Magistrate yesterday direc- ted the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) to have certified copies of the police

Information Book (IB) on the investigation into Former Wellampitiya OIC and several other suspects, kept under Court custody to ensure a credible investigation into to the incident.

Magistrate Nirosha Fernando made this order following a request made by the defence counsel after he raised doubts that information recorded in the police IB could be altered if they were further kept under CCD custody.

Meanwhile, the wife of the Wellampitiya OIC Roshani Chandrakanthi and alleged drug dealer Tuan Farid who were held under CCD custody were ordered to be remanded till January 17, after being produced before Court.

Refusing the allegations made by the defence, the CCD told Court that they were conducting a proper investigation and requested the defence to come up with facts after perusing police investigations reports. Police further told Court that they would seek the Attorney General’s advice regarding the wife of the OIC who had been arrested for aiding and abetting to commit drug deals.

Meanwhile, Counsel Gunar-

atne Wanninayake appearing for the suspect Roshani Chandrakanthi informed Court that the defence did not have faith whatsoever regarding the investigations conducted by the CCD and moved to Court that the investigations be handed over to the CID.

However, the CCD told Court that the wife of the OIC was arrested following a tip-off, that she possessed a sum of Rs.150,000 earned through selling of drugs.

In this case the CCD had produced three suspects in Court on Tuesday including former Wellampitiya OIC Bandara Munasinghe and ordered them to be remanded till January 21. Two other suspects arrested were Fathima Faslina and Sanka Maduranga. Police alleged that before arresting the OIC the police had detected 25 grammes of heroin in the possession of Maduranga and 10 grammes of heroin and 24 grammes of cannabis in the possession of Fathima Faslina. On their disclosure the OIC was arrested.
